Natural In-Home Family Photography Melbourne

Session Information, pricing & FAQ

The quiet beauty of family life, honestly captured in the place you love most — your home.

A Melbourne based in-home family photographer capturing the beautifully ordinary moments that will mean everything one day.

Bringing your baby home is magical, but let’s be honest — it’s a little overwhelming, a lot magical, and over in a heartbeat. One day you’re counting tiny toes, the next they’re taking their first steps.

As a mum myself, I know how fleeting these days are. I’m here to help you slow time down, capturing your baby’s earliest days with warmth, honesty and a whole lot of heart -so you don't forget.

“Amy photographed our newborn and did a wonderful job. The whole experience was really relaxed and Amy was so kind and gentle, which was exactly what I needed as a new mum. The photos turned out even better than I could have hoped for and we are so happy!"

-Emily, Melb

In Home Family Sessions

01

When should I have a family session?

Whenever it works for you! These sessions are available year-round, and since most of the photos are taken in your home, bad weather is never an issue. I usually start around 10 AM, and we’ll spend about 90 minutes together—plenty of time to capture all the little moments that make your family you.

02

Where does it take place?

Your home! That’s where the magic happens. We’ll almost always use your bedroom—on your bed or wherever the light is best—so a plain bedspread works best to keep things looking clean and timeless. I also love shooting in cozy spots like hallways, the baby’s room, or by big windows where the natural light pours in. No need to stress about having the “perfect” space—I’ll find the best spots and make it work beautifully!

03

What should I wear?

The short answer? Wear what makes you feel good! If you want some guidance, I can absolutely help with outfit ideas. Neutral tones, soft textures, and colors that complement each other (rather than match perfectly) tend to look amazing. But most importantly—choose outfits that feel like you. The more comfortable you are, the more relaxed and natural your photos will be.

Hi, I’m Amy! Mum, memory-keeper, and lover of the honest, in-between moments.

I photograph Melbourne families right in their own homes — capturing the beautiful, everyday chaos and the quiet, tender moments you’ll want to remember forever.

I know these early days can feel overwhelming, so my sessions are always gentle, unhurried, and baby-led — there’s even time for a cuppa if you need it.

Where are you based & do you travel?

I'm based in Melbourne, Australia. I do travel rurally (and occasionally interstate) & I also have a lovely little light filled studio in Mont Albert North in Melbourne.

I travel up to 40 KM from Melbourne CBD. If you are further than this then there will be a small travel fee. If you don't want to pay a travel fee then you are welcome to come to my studio or we can arrange to meet at an outdoor location somewhere.

How does scheduling a newborn session work?

It's quite simple. If you are pregnant then I suggest you book in with me now (I just ask for a $300 deposit) to make sure you don't miss out as I only schedule a certain number of shoots per month. I will then put you in my calendar for that month. Once baby arrives, contact me ASAP and we will schedule a time within the ideal two week window. I usually start newborn sessions at 10am.

Do you have to have your shoot within 2 weeks? Can I wait until baby is older?

No, you don't have to have your shoot in the first 2 weeks but if you are wanting those tiny, squishy newborn images then I do suggest this timeframe. We also aim for this because babies can develop acne on their face after two weeks of age. I know that having a baby is a beautiful shock to the system so I'm fine to wait until you are ready, I just don't want you to miss out on those fresh newborn images if that is what you are wanting.

What should my baby wear for the shoot?

My personal fave is a little knitted romper or legless overalls (or knitted nappy cover) because it still gives baby the security of clothing while us still being able to see + photograph their beautiful newborn skin BUT it's really up to you. I do have a little bag with these kind of items that I bring with me if you're stuck but please don't feel any pressure for your bubba to wear what I bring, I want the shoot to be true to you so if you have something more meaningful that you'd like your baby to wear then go with that. And if you want to go the extra step then a textured blanket or interesting wrap can be lovely too (just try and stay away from pink or blue). If you would like some outfit inspiration then please click here!

Do I need to provide anything else?

As I said above, one thing that really makes for nice photos is a lovely textured/knitted/linen/quilted blanket or wrap to loosely wrap baby in. I can have a look at what you have when I arrive. Neutral tones look lovely but so do pops of colour. The more texture the better.

Do you photograph baby awake or asleep?

A little bit of both but I prefer sleeping babies because fresh new babies can be a bit crossed-eyed when awake, adorable but kinda weird looking for photos! There are a few ways we can help get baby to sleep like feeding them, turning the heating up in your house, white noise or music can help this too. We can also wrap them tight and then gently unwrap them as they fall into a deeper sleep. Leave it with me, I've got this!

What can I do in the morning to help prepare for the session?

Have a cuppa (or coffee)! If you could aim to try and feed bubba just before I arrive then that is most ideal. I do know however, that babies don't really fit into our schedule when they are so little so if you can't time this out then don't stress.

Can I feed my baby during the session?

Absolutely YES, don't even ask! It's expected that baby might need a full feed or quick top up here and there to get them settled. Feeding is our magic sleep wand that will absolutely be needed at some point during the session, I'm sure!

What happens if we are sick?

That's totally OK, we can reschedule although, it might not always be possible to find a time in that ideal 2 week old window. And just know that if I am sick myself (even slightly) then we will reschedule too. I'd hate to transfer any germs to a precious new baby so there is grace both ways when it comes to sickness.

Can I eat and drink during my session?

Absolutely yes, I encourage this especially if you are breastfeeding! My newborn sessions usually go for at least 2 hours so you will probably get hungry. My sessions are super chilled and I want you to feel comfortable, relaxed and NOT hungry (also, hungry partners are no fun either - make sure they are fed!).

What if the siblings are not cooperating?

This will totally happen! Kids, babies (even partners! hehe) usually feel the pressure of photoshoot day and the amount of times I hear "but he is usually so happy!" Don't worry this happens ALL the time. Sometimes kids just need to stop, have a drink or snack and then they are good to go again. I am sensitive to your family and the little people break downs and if you guys need to stop then we do. The worst thing you can do in this situation is get angry with your kids. It never works and it's hard to bring them back emotionally. Take the lead from me, I always have a few tricks up my sleeve!

Do you re-touch our images?

No, not really. I'm all about embracing and loving the real you! I definitely edit your images to suit my 'Amy Oliver Style' but I'm not a photographer who smooths skin or makes you look skinnier. If you are after this kind of thing then I might not be the right photographer for you.

Do you photograph same-sex families?

Of course! I'm sorry this has to even be a FAQ [but I have been asked]! Family is family and now let's just pretend this isn't a question, OK?!

You don't need to pretend infront of my camera. You are enough, just as you are.
