I know choosing what to wear for your family photoshoot can feel a little overwhelming, so I hope this guide makes it easier. My biggest piece of advice? Wear something that feels like you. These photos will be hanging on your walls for years to come, and the last thing I want is for you to walk past them thinking, "that just wasn’t me!"
If you love wearing dresses, wear one! If you’re a jeans-and-tee kind of person, go for it. Take on a few of the do’s and don’ts below if they help, but don’t feel like you need to dress a certain way for me. My goal is to capture your family in the most honest way possible—whether that means dressed up, dressed down, or somewhere in between.
And please don’t let the wardrobe stress take over! If you’re feeling stuck, give me a call—I’m more than happy to chat and ease any last-minute outfit anxiety.
Skip logos, big graphics, or bold writing on tops—especially for the dads and boys.
Avoid the all-matching look (no jeans and white shirts for everyone!).
Mamas, keep accessories simple—less is more.
Dads, consider leaving the watch at home; they can be shiny and distracting.
A relaxed tee or casual shirt is better than anything too business-like.
Keep it comfy, keep it you, and we’ll create something beautiful!
Soft linens, lace, textures, and petite patterns always photograph beautifully, especially in softer pastel or neutral tones. But if you love a pop of color—go for it!
For the ladies, dresses create a lovely sense of movement, but if you’re more of a jeans-and-tee kind of person, that works just as well too. Wear what feels you!
If we’re shooting somewhere like the beach or in your home, bare feet are perfect. And if your little one’s nappy might peek out under a dress, a simple nappy cover keeps things looking seamless.
If in doubt, white always looks timeless!
