Outdoor Family Photography in Melbourne

VIEW PRICING

Melbourne’s spring and summer were made for family photos outdoors— on the sand, under the trees, in the spots you actually love spending time. Perfect for gifting, for remembering, and for proof that the messier moments are the ones you’ll treasure most.

The light lingers longer, the air softens, and the kids are barefoot, loud, and exactly where they’re happiest—outside.

Why Outdoor Sessions?

Forget forced smiles. Outdoors, the kids get to run wild, you get to breathe, and suddenly “family photos” doesn’t feel like a hostage situation.

Melbourne’s beaches, parks, and gardens become your backdrop—wide open spaces made for running, cuddling, and getting a little messy.

These sessions give you room to move, laugh, and actually enjoy yourselves. And when you’re relaxed? The photos stop looking staged and start looking like you.

Summer, Sun & Slightly Sandy Feet

This is Melbourne’s golden window: spring blossoms, summer holidays, long evenings at the beach. Grandparents love them as Christmas gifts, kids love them because they get to play, and you’ll love them because you’re not dragging everyone into a studio. These sessions book out quickly, because apparently I’m not the only one who prefers salty air to artificial lighting!

Locations I Love

I’ll meet you wherever feels like you. Barefoot on the beach, under giant gums, wandering through gardens, or chasing kids down a country trail—I can make magic anywhere but a stunning backdrop never hurts.

Some of my go-tos? Williamstown at sunset, Fitzroy & Carlton Gardens for that green-meets-city vibe, Yarra Bend Park when you want wild without the road trip, the Dandenong Ranges for daisies and towering trees, or the Mornington Peninsula if your heart beats salty—Mount Martha, Flinders Cliffs, Blairgowrie, Sorrento, and plenty of hidden gems in between.

Not sure where to start? Once you’re booked, I’ll send my location guide so you can scroll, dream, and point to the one that feels right. And if it’s beyond metro Melbourne, no problem—there’s a small travel fee, but the backdrop? Always worth it!

What to Expect

What actually happens Outdoors

Running, hugging, chasing birds — because bribery only lasts so long.

Sunrise or sunset — the only light worth setting an alarm for.

Just enough direction — so you don’t look lost, but never like catalogue models.

Mix of moments — group shots, parent–kid duos, and the in-between chaos I’m really there for.

Every outdoor session is equal parts chaos and charm. I won’t make you pose like mannequins, but I will make sure everyone looks like they belong in the same family. And no—I won’t keep you grinning at the camera until your cheeks ache. Promise.

Golden light is fleeting. Bedtime? -It’ll be there tomorrow. the photos will be worth it- trust me!

“Amy is truly talented and brings real emotion into every shot"

Jenna Elizabeth

Amy was so sweet and intuitive, it made the session such a wonderful experience and a real bonding time for our little family. The photos are magical and continue to bring us such joy- I get goosebumps every time I look at them!

"We are incredibly thankful to Amy for so beautifully capturing this precious time in our lives."

Angi Hill

I loved my pregnancy belly shoot. Amy made me feel beautiful, feminine and super comfortable. When our son Weston was born, Amy was there quietly capturing our birth story. When Weston was 6 weeks old, she was there again documenting life as a family of three. Lucky, we're with Amy!

Where are you based & do you travel?

I'm based in Blackburn in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, Australia but I travel all over Victoria for my clients. Occasionally I travel interstate so don't hesitate to ask if you're keen for a session!

I'm not sure where I want to have my outdoor session!?

That’s half the fun! Once you’re booked in, I’ll send you my Location Guide—a little menu of Melbourne’s best beaches, parks, and tucked-away gems. You can pick what feels right, or just let me surprise you (I’ve got plenty of secret spots up my sleeve). It’s easier than you think, promise.

An evening shoot feels impossible for our family, is there another time we could do?

I get it—pushing bedtime can feel like running for prime minister. But here’s the thing: golden hour really is magic. That soft, golden light is what makes photos glow and skin look like it belongs in a movie.

If you’d like to aim for it, a few tricks help: push nap time later (if your kids still nap), keep the day low-key so no one arrives frazzled, and maybe avoid the straight-from-childcare sprint. And yes, snacks are basically currency at this point.

I know breaking routine can feel daunting (I’m deep in routine life myself), but more often than not, kids surprise us. Put them outside, give them something new and fun to explore, and suddenly bedtime doesn’t feel so urgent. Worst case? They’re a bit tired the next day. Best case? You get photos bathed in light that makes it all worth it.

But what if golden hour still feels impossible?
If the thought of pushing bedtime makes you break out in hives, that’s okay too. Early mornings can be beautiful (and usually quieter), and late mornings or midday can absolutely work if that’s when your family is happiest. I’ll always encourage the magic light if you’re up for it—but if “easier” feels like the real magic for your crew, I’m here for that too.

How long does an outdoor session take?

Usually between 60–90 minutes, depending on how everyone’s feeling. Most families are surprised at how quickly it flies by—it’s over before you know it. I read the room (and the kids) as we go, so if energy is high we’ll stretch it out, and if little legs are flagging, I can move faster. The point is: your session fits your family, not the other way around.

What if my kids don't cooperate?

That’s normal! Honestly. I hear “they’re not usually like this!” all the time. The best thing you can do is stay relaxed and let me lead. I’ve got gentle tricks, patience, and zero expectations for perfection.

What actually happens during an outdoor session?

Think less “photo shoot” and more “family adventure with someone tagging along who happens to have a camera.” We’ll play games, chase birds, tickle kids, and let things unfold. Sometimes I’ll step in with a bit of direction (no catalogue poses, promise), and sometimes I’ll just quietly catch the magic as it happens.

Here’s the secret: the less you stress about “perfect behaviour,” the better it works. Kids don’t need to perform; they just need to be themselves. I’ll handle the wrangling, the prompts, and the silliness—your job is to enjoy your family. That way, when you see the photos later, you’ll cry the good kind of tears.

What do we wear?

Choosing what to wear for your session can feel like a big deal. But honestly? Just wear what feels like you. These photos will live on your walls for years—let’s make sure you recognise yourself in them. Once you've booked in I'll send you a little 'Getting Ready Guide' that will be helpful.

Do you offer a client wardrobe?

I don’t—and that’s very deliberate. Here’s why: I want your photos to feel like you. If I filled a rack with the same flowy dresses and styled outfits, I’d be squeezing families into my mould instead of capturing your real heartbeat just as you are. And honestly, nothing lights me up more than photographing families authentically—mess, quirks, and all.

When it comes to clothing, comfort is key. Wear what feels good and feels like you. You don’t need to impress me or guess what I might like. Shorts, jeans, skirts, dresses—I’ve seen it all and loved it all (okay, maybe skip the giant logos and zebra stripes).

But if the thought of outfit choosing makes you want to hide under the doona, don’t stress—I’ll send you a session guide with a section on some more guidelines for choosing outfits so you feel confident on the day.

When will we receive our photos?

Within 14 days, your private gallery lands in your inbox. No upsells, no hidden extras—just your family, captured as they really are, ready for you to scroll through, laugh at, and marvel that your everyday love actually looks this good.

How do we book and what's the process?

Easy. Have a peek at my calendar and lock in a date that works for you—or send me an email if you’d rather chat it through first. Prefer WhatsApp? Even better, I love a good voice note. Once we’ve connected, I’ll send you your own booking portal with everything in one place. You’ll also get my Getting Ready for Your Shoot Guide—so instead of stressing, you can just show up, coffee in hand, ready for the giggles, cuddles, and inevitable chaos (that photographs beautifully, by the way).

Do I need to bring anything to the shoot?

If you’ve got a nice neutral blanket lying around, bring it—textures look gorgeous, and it’s perfect for sitting or sprawling together. But honestly? Don’t stress if you don’t. We’ll make magic either way.

What if it rains on shoot day?

Great question, we live in Melbourne after all!

I keep a close eye on the weather in the lead up to your shoot. If it looks like it's going to rain or blow your family away then I'll happily reschedule your shoot!

You don't need to be perfect, you just need to show up.

My Philosophy

Whether you're married, divorced, a same-sex couple, navigating additional needs, neurodiversity, dealing with loss, or just the loudest, craziest family on the planet, I'm here for it! Every family, in all its beautiful forms, deserves to be documented.

Did you know I offer a ‘Love or I lose’ guarantee?

If you don’t adore your images, I’ll either come back and capture your family again—or return every single cent you’ve paid. That’s my way of saying: your memories matter more to me than anything else (and I'm also super confident in my ability to make magic for you)!

CLICK HERE to peek at the fine print of this guarantee—though honestly, I’d rather you focus on the good stuff: the laughs, the cuddles, and those tiny moments that make your family yours.
