Gentle, honest newborn photography — captured in the comfort of your own home. For families who care more about real connection than perfect poses — no headbands, babies in baskets or weird edits. Just your baby, in your space, and the beauty of now.
A Melbourne based newborn photographer capturing the beautifully ordinary moments that will mean everything one day.
Bringing your baby home is magical, but let’s be honest — it’s a little overwhelming, a lot magical, and over in a heartbeat. One day you’re counting tiny toes, the next they’re taking their first steps.
As a mum myself, I know how fleeting these days are. I’m here to help you slow time down, capturing your baby’s earliest days with warmth, honesty and a whole lot of heart -so you don't forget.
I’m Amy! Mum, memory-keeper, and lover of the honest, in-between moments.
I photograph Melbourne families in the comfort of their own homes, capturing both the beautiful chaos and the quiet, fleeting moments you’ll want to remember forever. I know these early days can feel overwhelming, so my sessions are always gentle, unhurried, and baby-led — there’s even time for a cuppa if you need it.
Whether you’re curled up on the couch, feeding in the nursery, or barefoot in the backyard, I’ll be there to document it — honestly and artfully. I work with families across Melbourne, including the eastern suburbs, bayside, and beyond.
“Amy photographed our newborn and did a wonderful job. The whole experience was really relaxed and Amy was so kind and gentle, which was exactly what I needed as a new mum. The photos turned out even better than I could have hoped for and we are so happy!"
-Emily, Melb

“Amy is warm and kind, so very generous with her time and clearly brilliant at her craft. The photos received from our shoot are something we will treasure for years to come. They are natural, relaxed and so very ‘us’. It couldn’t have been a better experience. I’ll tell anybody who will listen that they need an Amy Oliver in their life!”

Newborn Photography faq
Where are you based & do you travel?
I'm based in Blackburn in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, Australia but I travel all over Victoria for my clients. Occasionally I travel interstate so don't hesitate to ask if you're keen for a session!
When do I book?
Most families book while still pregnant to guarantee a spot — ideally for baby’s first 1–2 weeks, but older newborns are beautiful too!
Do we have to do the shoot in the first 2 weeks? Can we wait until baby is older?
No pressure at all — it’s your call. If you love those tiny, curly newborn photos, the first 1–2 weeks are best (babies are sleepier and less likely to have baby acne). But I’m always happy to wait until you feel ready — older newborns are just as beautiful, with more eye contact and little stretches. It’s all about what feels right for you.
What if my baby cries or won’t settle?
Every baby is different — that’s okay! We take breaks, we cuddle, we settle. I allow extra time so you never feel rushed.
What if my house is small or dark?
I haven't been in a home I couldn't photograph in- yet! You’d be amazed what we can do with one good window. I’ll find the best light and gently guide you — my superpower is being able to go into anyones home and make magic!
Do you photograph baby awake or asleep?
A little bit of both but I prefer sleeping babies because fresh new babies can be a bit crossed-eyed when awake, adorable but kinda weird looking for photos! There are a few ways we can help get baby to sleep like feeding them, turning the heating up in your house, white noise or music can help this too. We can also wrap them tight and then gently unwrap them as they fall into a deeper sleep. Leave it with me, I've got this!
What should we wear?
I’ll send you a simple styling guide if you need help, but remember, I'm not trying to make you fit into my mould! I'll give you some gentle guidance about things that don't look great in photos and things that do. The most important advice I can give is that you feel and look like you!
Can I feed my baby during the session?
Absolutely! Please do — it’s totally normal. It’s expected that your baby will need a full feed (or a top-up) to help them settle during our session. Feeding is like a little magic sleep wand — we’ll use it as often as we need to keep your baby happy and cozy.
What happens if we are sick?
That’s absolutely okay — your baby’s health comes first. If your little one is unwell, we can definitely reschedule, though it’s worth noting it might be harder to find a new date within that ideal 2-week window. And the same goes for me — if I’m even slightly unwell, I’ll always reschedule. I’d never risk passing germs to a brand-new baby. There’s plenty of grace both ways when it comes to sickness — your family’s wellbeing is the priority.
What if the other kids are not cooperating?
Honestly? It’s so normal! Kids, babies — even partners (hehe) — can feel the pressure on photo day. I hear “but they’re usually so happy!” all the time.
Don’t stress — it happens. Sometimes little ones just need a break, a snack, or a drink before they’re ready again. I’m always sensitive to how your kids are feeling, and if we need to pause, we pause.
The best thing you can do is stay calm and let me lead — getting frustrated never helps, and it’s hard to win them back emotionally. I promise I have plenty of gentle tricks up my sleeve to keep things fun and natural.
Do you re-touch our images?
Nope — not really! I’m all about celebrating and loving the real you. I do edit every image in my signature Amy Oliver style, but I don’t heavily retouch skin or change how you naturally look. If you’re after airbrushed or overly polished photos, I might not be the right fit — but if you want honest, beautiful moments that feel like you, you’re in the right place.
You don't need to be perfect, you just need to show up.
Let's capture the early days
